Bardiya National Park 2 Nights 3 Days is a very short course on the wildlife, forest, grasslands, and river regions of Western Nepal. You can fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and continue by road to Bardiya, or travel the entire route by bus/road vehicle. The adventure includes jungle experience, bird watching, and viewing the local culture of the Tharu. The Bardiya National Park is 968 sq. km in size, containing one-horned rhino, Royal Bengal tiger, wild elephant, swamp deer, and blackbuck, amongst others. The rivers crossed in the park also include the Karnali and Babai to name a few; apart from this, the park is also home to a wide variety of bird species.

Trip starts from Kathmandu to Bardiya, which can be done by jeep or vehicle. You can fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then drive to the Bardiya region and proceed by road the rest of the way or drive the entire route. Bardiya is approximately 95 km from Nepalgunj (3 hours' road), and Nepalgunj is approximately one hour's road from Kathmandu (or approximately one hour by air). In Bardiya, you will have a cultural programme of Tharu heritage, a walk into the jungle, bird watching, and a jeep safari. The activities offer a chance to explore various sections of the park and to see the wildlife in its native habitat, although a successful sighting of wildlife cannot be guaranteed. You can enjoy another birdwatching session on the last morning before departing Kathmandu by plane or road. October to March is the best time to visit Bardiya, while April to June can be extremely hot and the monsoon season brings heavy rainfall.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu to Bardiya, Transfer and Tharu Cultural Program

Travel from Kathmandu towards Bardiya, located in western Nepal. There are also two options to get from Kathmandu to Bardiya either fly to Nepalgunj then drive on a road to Bardiya, or drive the whole way from Kathmandu to Bardiya. It takes one hour to Nepalgunj, followed by three hours to Nepalgunj or little over 12 hour drive. Thus, if you are driving to Bardia, you need to wake and and start the trip early.

Upon reaching Bardiya, you can register in the jungle lodge and give yourself some rest. Later, you can roam around and familiarize yourself with the local Tharu culture. Following this, you can enjoy a traditional Tharu programme in the evening, that features Tharu dance and music.
