Mustang Region

The Mustang Region is one of Nepal's most unique trekking destinations, famous for its dramatic desert landscapes, ancient Tibetan culture, and centuries-old monasteries. Located in northwestern Nepal along the border with Tibet, Mustang is divided into Lower Mustang and the restricted Upper Mustang Region, often called the "Last Forbidden Kingdom" due to its preserved traditions and historic walled city of Lo Manthang.

Mustang Region trekking offers an extraordinary experience through colorful cliffs, deep river gorges, high mountain passes, and remote villages. Popular routes include the Upper Mustang Trek, Lower Mustang Trek, and the Jomsom–Muktinath Trek. The region also provides spectacular views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.

The Mustang Region climate is unique because it lies in the Himalayan rain shadow. Unlike many trekking areas in Nepal, Mustang receives very little rainfall, making it an excellent destination even during the monsoon season (June–August). Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are also ideal, offering pleasant temperatures and clear mountain views.

Administratively, Mustang District is part of Gandaki Province (formerly the Western Development Region before Nepal's federal restructuring). The region is also home to several impressive peaks, including Gaugiri Peak, which enhances the area's rugged Himalayan landscape.
